Join Us For an Evening of Prairie Tales told while watching a Demonstration of Traditional Woodworking. Prairie Tales are stories of people, places, and things from the past on the prairie, often tied to the present, many of which have been published, and are now a collection of short stories of the same name.
Brett Hall is a story teller, who is also a master woodwright. His shop is a fully equipped furniture shop, With most of the tools dating from 1850 or before. The tools were his grandfathers, some of which were brought to America from Sweden by his great-grandfather. The Walnut Prairie Woodwrights Shop exists to produce furniture, and to teach and preserve both the tools and the techniques of 18th century American furniture makers. We use wood from our own timber, both natural trees and timber planted by generations of his family. Using no electricity in our shop, and never cutting a live tree makes us carbon neutral. We burn our scrapes and mistakes, and have never spent a cold day in the shop. We use our own natural stains, and usually use beeswax for the finish.
