Community Observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day National Holiday
The Princeton Peace and Justice Roundtable will host the second annual community observance of Martin Luther Kind, Jr. Day. All are invited to attend this program honoring the legacy of American civil rights leader, world humanitarian, and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Appropriate for all ages, the program will last for one hour.
The gathering will include short readings from Dr. King's speeches, songs, and reflections on the continuing relevance today of Dr. King's philosophy of non-violence and racial and economic justice. There will be a welcome fromt he City of Princeton. Rev. Dwight Bailey (the recent interim pastor of Princeton's First Christian Church), Rev. Sarah Gladstone (Hampshire Colony Church), and Rev. Mary Gay McKinney (Open Prairie, UCC) along with other members of the community will particiapte.
Children are invited to write 50 words or less about why they like Dr. King, something new they have learned about him, or why we observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Drawing a picture in honor of Dr. King is another possibility. Children's contributions can be emailed to mail@openprairie.org or brought to the event itself. They will be displayed and integrated into the program that evening.
